Most preventive screenings look for explosives or items that pose a threat. This Orwellian machine proposes to detect the person — not the device — that may pose a threat. Not Someone Carrying a Bomb Rather Someone that May Want to Carry a Bomb.
A system that went into field operation testing in 2008 called MALINTENT turns the logical approach of threat reduction on its head by profiling everyone. Homeland Security had an operational field test in Maryland, scanning 144 unwitting human subjects. Results are confidential, testing is ongoing and further disclosure could compromise continued testing.

This is not even a polygraph test. Subjects do not get hooked up to sensitive equipment or set in a careful setting to establish a scientific reading; the sensors and the algorithms do all the work without any actual physical contact. It’s like a Bad X-ray for intentions. Polygraph tests can still be very inaccurate and this has even less scientific accuracy for infinite invasion of privacy.
